Development of Apiculture

            The apiculture development division maintains 6,200 bee colonies in 31 Townships in 10 States/ Regions, while being responsible for the generation and distribution of selected queen bees for development of the private apiculture sector, and for providing the on-job training in beekeeping, and for extension services. The number of private beekeepers has been increased to 820 head, and the number of bee colonies owned by the private sector is 200,036, and the total number of bee colonies including the government sector is 206,236.

                  Pollination services were delivered to 1,028,188 acres of land in the private and government sectors. The honey production was 3463.34 metric ton, and 1095.35 metric ton was exported in 2021-2022.

                  Bee pollination research, bee pasture research and selected queen production and distribution for artificial insemination for apiculture development was carried out in cooperation with private agriculture businessman to increase crop production. Bee colonies were hired out with pollination charges to increase crop production.

                  Apiculture Development Division, LBVD distributes 3,100 number of selected tested mated queens to the private beekeepers in 2021-2022.
